Another Dysfunctional Hero

Wait for You (Wait for You, #1)Wait for You by J. Lynn
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

A common theme in the Young Adult or New Adult Genre, where one disturbed character having experienced a life-changing and appalling event, is rescued by another strong character with the obligatory family support system.

Predictable? – Absolutely!
Award winning literary fiction? – Almost certainly not!
Enjoyable read? – Without a doubt!

Reading books like this provides a great escape into another world. Everybody (or at least all the females I know) crave that one true love that helps us to overcome the obstacles we are faced with as we blunder through this thing called life. Avery is troubled and Cam adores her despite her emotional instability! A great body, perfect good looks and a supportive family make him the perfect male specimen. What’s not to like?

This is not a criticism of this particular book, but more a recurring question that is coming to the fore as I read the hundreds of books available on e-readers. Steamy sex scenes have become almost obligatory in every romance that I have read over the past year. Is it entirely necessary? So often these scenes add absolutely nothing to the main plot. Do writers feel obliged to include these scenes out of fear that their books won’t sell without a certain amount of “soft porn”? Personally I believe that this particular book would have been better without these scenes – but hey, I am a sample of 1!

Overall this book is an easy read with a nice feel-good ending!
